We are all so busy these days and it seems our brains never get time to switch off. That can be very tiring and disruptive at night if you wake up.
Magic Tongue Trick
This is going to sound mad but I can get your brain to stop thinking instantly. You might think I’m talking rubbish, but I assure you if you follow the instructions below you can give yourself some respite. Carrying out this technique cannot be done forever because our brains are meant to “think”, but over stimulation is certainly not helping either.
- close your eyes
- place your tongue at the top of your mouth and rest the tip of our tongue naturally behind your top teeth
- Depending on the type of person you are, either visual in your mind’s eye your tongue resting comfortably on the back of your teeth OR feel the sensation of your mouth at the top of your mouth and behind teeth.
- constantly maintain the visual or feeling whilst breathing gently and slowly. Keep the focus there for as long as you like but do not stop the visual or feeling.
When you stop this exercise, you will realise that in the whole time you carried this out, you did not have one thought. That is because the tongue represents talking and you told the brain it is resting.
This really is a magic trick. Enjoy giving yourself a break.
